Ms. Courtney is a passionate and student-centered educator dedicated to helping students develop strong English language skills through integrated ESL, reading, and writing instruction. Ms. Courtney has 9 years English class teaching experience. She has been teaching since 2017 and brings extensive experience from both in-person classrooms and online learning environments, working with students ages 2 through 18 from diverse linguistic and academic backgrounds.
Ms. Courtney is a certified teacher in three U.S. states—Pennsylvania, California, and Oregon—and holds ESL authorization. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood and Special Education, which enables her to thoughtfully support learners with a wide range of abilities, learning styles, and language needs.
Her teaching approach blends English language development with literacy instruction, helping students build vocabulary, comprehension, and writing skills in meaningful and connected ways. Ms. Courtney uses research-based strategies such as visual supports, repetition, structured language practice, and Total Physical Response (TPR) to help students gain confidence and fluency while strengthening their reading and writing foundations. She values routine and organization, while creating a warm, flexible learning environment where students feel comfortable taking risks and expressing ideas.
Ms. Courtney is especially passionate about helping students grow into confident readers and writers while developing strong communication skills in English. Her lessons encourage critical thinking, creativity, and clear expression, guiding students to engage deeply with texts and communicate their thoughts effectively in both spoken and written form. She believes that with consistent support and encouragement, every child can succeed and enjoy the learning process.
Beyond the classroom, Ms. Courtney has demonstrated leadership and initiative. In 2022, she successfully secured a grant to launch a music program at her elementary school, developing lesson plans and supporting her kindergarten teaching team. In 2023, she was nominated for Oregon’s Teacher of the Year, recognizing her dedication and positive impact on students and colleagues.
Outside of teaching, Ms. Courtney enjoys spending time outdoors, hiking in Pennsylvania, the mountains of Oregon, and along the California coast. She also loves reading, listening to music, jogging, cooking, painting, and spending time at the park with her son.
Ms. Courtney brings warmth, structure, and enthusiasm to every lesson. By combining ESL instruction with reading and writing development, she helps students build confidence, communicate effectively, and develop a lasting love of learning.
