course description:

Our Reading and Writing course is designed to enhance students’ literacy skills through engaging and interactive activities. Students will improve their reading comprehension by exploring a variety of texts, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and drama. They will develop their writing abilities by practicing different styles, such as narrative, expository, persuasive, and descriptive writing. The course emphasizes critical thinking, encouraging students to analyze texts and express their interpretations thoughtfully. Creative writing exercises will inspire imagination, while research assignments will introduce basic research skills and proper citation practices. By the end of the course, students will be well-prepared for academic challenges and equipped with the tools to enjoy and analyze literature critically.

  • Grade K: Teach key reading skills by recognizing different types of books, and retelling stories to identify characters and main events.

  • Grade 1: Retell stories, identify emotions, compare characters' experiences, and organize articles with rich vocabulary and clear structure.

  • Grade 2: Ask detailed questions, compare cultural versions of stories, and organize writing by selecting appropriate vocabulary and exploring different language styles.

  • Grade 3: Retell stories to understand central messages and themes, and maintain coherence in writing by choosing strong points and exploring different writing voices.

  • Grade 4: Cite details to describe characters and settings, compare different narrative perspectives, and develop settings and plots with enhanced sentence fluency.

  • Grade 5: Understand themes, analyze word meanings and text structures, and use vivid language to develop a unique writing style.

  • Grade 6: Analyze key ideas and themes, compare different forms of text, and develop strong writing points using figurative language to create a persuasive voice.

  • Grade 7: Understand and analyze text structure and themes, infer cause and effect, and develop ideas using vivid language to enhance a personal writing voice.
